Foreign Enterprise Petro Karbo Chem-Mukachevo is located in Transсarpathian region of Ukraine. It occupies a 30 ha plot of land in the village of Pavshino. The enterprise is equipped with facilities allowing for discharge, storage and dispatch of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) of light (propane and its mixtures) and heavy (butane and its mixtures) fractions, as well as petrochemical and agricultural products. It caters for transhipment between rail cars of CIS standard (broad-gauge) and European standard (narrow-gauge), also servicing road transport. Designated pipelines and segregated storage tanks allow for preservation of quantitative and qualitative parameters of different products.
The strategically advantageous geographical location of the transhipment terminal and its access to railways of both European and CIS standards makes it a perfect link between Ukraine and Europe. The distances to the neighbouring states are as follows: Hungary – 30 km, Slovakia – 40 km, Poland – 80 km, Romania – 100 km.
The nominal capacity for transhipment of LPG is in excess of 300,000 tons per year. Daily capacity: 21 to 28 tank cars, which amounts to 800 to 950 tons per day, depending on the type of cars and on brand of LPG.
Along with LPG, the terminal services such petrochemical products as gasoline, diesel, carbon disulphide, benzene, etc. Those oil products are also transhipped from tanks of CIS standard to tanks of European standard and vice versa. On the territory of the complex there are three overflow loading ramps servicing rail tank cars and two – servicing tanker trucks. Capacity of such ramps is up to 500 tons per day and over 250,000 tons per year. In winter months the operations are aided by heating systems. This applies to both rail and road transhipment.
The terminal has a private access road of 2 km and own truck fleet which facilitates delivery of liquefied petroleum gas by road directly to retailers. The capacity of the automated ramp able to service four loading points simultaneously is 300 tons per day.
In January 2011, the terminal put into operation its LPG storage tank farm of 3,000 m³, on the territory of the complex. There are 15 tanks in total, 200 m³ each, allowing for segregated discharge, storage and dispatch of different brands of liquefied petroleum gas.
The transhipment complex is equipped with high-tech machinery and hardware from the world’s leading manufacturers. Pipelines, installations and technological equipment have a full set of necessary safety and control devices as well as measuring devices. The technological process is aided by an automated control system and monitored from a central control room.
The environmental and industrial safety of complex production facilities has become the focus of attention of people and organisations all over the world. This is why starting from the design stage through to construction we have been relying solely on modern systems.
The key elements ensuring safety, accident-free and uninterrupted operations of the transhipment terminal are:
— Automated technological process control system, which ensures a high level of fire protection and environmental safety;
— Set of systems for early detection of emergency situations and notification of personnel in the event of their occurrence;
— Lightning protection system;
— Technological gasification control system;
— Own nitrogen facility based at the membrane nitrogen plant, which includes a nitrogen storage tank of 100 m³. Nitrogen management provides the terminal with inert gas for insufflation of gas pipelines and technological equipment.
The railway infrastructure of the terminal consists of 19 access tracks of both broad and narrow gauge, of about 10 kilometres in total, allowing for simultaneous placement of more than 340 wagons on broad gauge and 245 wagons on narrow gauge. Shunting operations at the transhipment terminal are carried out by diesel locomotives privately owned by the terminal.
Control over acceptance and dispatch of products includes weight control carried out with truck scales and railway scales, available for both broad and narrow gauge tracks.
The product quality control is executed at the terminal by its own laboratory set up jointly with SGS Surveyors.
In order to speed up the processing of transport documents, we also set up a local customs desk on the territory of the terminal that makes it recognised as a customs control zone.
